Equity and Equal Opportunity

The Equity and Equal Opportunity Office (EEO) works to ensure that all members of our UC Santa Cruz community are protected from unlawful discrimination, harassment, and retaliation. Our office enforces the UC Anti-Discrimination Policy, as well as other applicable university, state, and federal guidelines for creating an inclusive and equitable environment.

Complaints of discrimination and harassment on all protected characteristics can be reported to Equity and Equal Opportunity (EEO). We strive to promote the administration of all University activities consistent with the mission and values in UC Santa Cruz’s Principles of Community.

Actions that constitute prohibited discrimination, harassment, or retaliation are defined in the University of California’s Anti-Discrimination Policy.

Find out more about available protections and procedures EEO supports in this introductory video:

What happens when you report?

  • EEO Staff assess the complaint to determine whether, if true, the allegations violate the UC Anti-Discrimination Policy
  • EEO staff sends an email to the impacted party or “complainant” with resources and an invitation to meet for an “Initial Assessment”
  • During the “Initial Assessment” meeting, EEO staff shares resources and explains resolution options
